Network Attached Storage (NAS) Data Recovery

Also known as Appliance, these units are usually fairly well built. NAS such as Buffalo TeraStation or the USR8700 are reliable RAID network attached storage. Occasional mishaps can occur during the recovery and rebuilding of a failed drive. These drive are extremely sensitive to accidental power loss and can get corrupted very easily if an interruption in Power should occur during the rebuilding phase or pretty well anytime actually.
To insure the best protection of your NAS, it's strongly recommended to have an Uninterruptible Backup Power Supply (UPS) attached to your system which allows for short term continuation of the supply of Power. You should choose a UPS compatible to your NAS so that the appliance can shut itself down prior to the batteries running out of power.
Some Network Attached Storage (NAS) are not RAID storage systems , the use a single hard drive and are a vulnerable as regular USB 2.0 hard drive enclosures. Since the enclosures are usually almost identical to USB 2.0 enclosures, failure rate can be high due to overheating caused by poor ventilation. These enclosures should not be left on continuously and powered on only for backup purposes.
